I have to make a choice between a fun afternoon at the beach with friends and a rockin’ evening on the pier with my bandmate.
Both of those things are very important to me, but every once in a while they end up at odds with one another.
I can’t do both in one day because I just don’t have the energy, and my shoulders won’t stand it. Shoulder pain is a real issue for me, as I have to choose between playing volleyball and drums every day, and I need to make that choice quickly. After either activity, I need to cool off my shoulders in the ocean’s icy waters, and then warm them back up in front of my radiant floor heater. My shoulders are a little sore from last night’s game, but I think they’re fine if I ever play again or start banging on drums in a band. I’ll let my Heating and Air Conditioning technician buddy decide if he wants to play in the band or not. Sometimes he is too busy to play, so if he tells me that, I’ll get ready for the beach and wait until later to play. Since my oil heater was put to heavy use throughout the winter, my friend and I will also have to clean and sanitize it. That’s probably something that my coworker and I can knock out this weekend in a couple of hours and be done with until next winter. In the end, I’ll prioritize taking care of my shoulders and finding a balance between my love for the beach and my passion for music, while also making sure to maintain my oil heater for the upcoming winter season.
