I’m a stickler about my air quality and I always have been. As someone who suffers from severe seasonal allergies, it’s imperative that I maintain the quality of air in my home. Now that I spend my days working from home, I spend ninety percent of the day inside my house. It’s more important than ever for me to purify my breathing air as best as possible. Several years ago, I invested in a top quality air purifier that was the best on the market. It was portable, which meant that I could move it around my house as needed and I think it’s done an excellent job at keeping the air in my home clean. However, it wasn’t until recently that an HVAC professional told me that I wasn’t doing a good job at replacing my air filters. According to him, two air filter replacements a year were not enough. Instead, I needed to be taking the old air filter out and replacing it with a clean one at least four times per year. This would be roughly every three to four months, which seemed excessive to me. The HVAC professional was adamant that it needed to be done this often in order to experience the best air quality. Not only that, but a clean air filter was needed for my HVAC system to run efficiently. Air filters aren’t just for a home’s air quality, but also for protection of the HVAC system. I was shocked upon hearing this from the HVAC professional, but I’m glad he told me.
