My parents have lived in the same town their entire lives.
They grew up there, raised my brother and I and then retired all in the same city.
It is a small town and not much changes over the years, but that is why they liked living in this small southern town. They don’t have to worry about brutal winters as they get older and they can enjoy the sunshine all year long. However, something strange happened about three weeks ago. My mother called me to let me know they would be moving to a town up north. I was shocked when I heard my mother say she was going to leave her small sunny town. I wanted to be happy for them, but I was afraid the winter weather might be too intense for their aging bodies. They are both about to turn eighty-five years old and I don’t want them to have to constantly worry which one is going to turn on the furnace. Neither one of them have dealt with a HVAC system in freezing cold weather and they might over work the furnace by keeping it running for too long at one period of time. They both can’t stand to be cold and almost never turn on their air conditioner during the summer. They are constantly wearing sweaters indoors and have blankets all around the house to stay warm. I know they are going to call me in the middle of the night because they need help to reignite the pilot light on their furnace. I am just worried about their move!
