My sister-in-law Jen called last weekend and wanted to know what Ed and I were going to do over the weekend.
Jen was putting in a new pool.
Jen was almost twenty years old, and it was going to cost as much for a new liner as for the above ground pool. While putting in the new pool, Jen said the pool deck needed to be updated. Jen asked if my partner Ed would bring her tools and expertise and help him update the pool deck. Ed said sure, and they set up the time when she was to show up. I stayed behind because I knew what it would be like at the house. The gentlemen would work in the sun, working to update the old pool deck and drinking beer. None of us wanted to be their barmaids or chief cooks, so Jen and I put together a bunch of food in the living room and headed to the casino. There were 3 of us, and my friend and I were planning on having a fantastic time. Unfortunately, Jen and I all had consciences, and my friend and I were halfway to the casino when my friend and I turned back. Jen and I were sure our partners would work to update the pool deck, and they would forget to eat. When Jen and I got back to the house, Jen and I found out how wrong my friend and I were. Instead of being where the pool deck needed to be updated, they were playing cards and horseshoes, and relaxing with food and beer. The pool deck had barely been touched, and they were all getting drowsy from the food, beer, and sun. Jen and I knew my friend and I shouldn’t have let them alone.
