With Christmas approaching, I can’t help but think back on the other holidays this year, and Halloween sticks out the most in my mind for being the most enjoyable experience for the kids, my husband, and I. A small local farm held a big Halloween event that had fire pits for marshmallow roasting, a haunted hay ride, a petting zoo, a magic performance, inflatable jumpy castles, and a small funhouse. The kids were encouraged to dress up in their costumes and at a certain time they even scheduled a mini trick-or-treat where you could stop by each of the stations scattered around the area for treats. The best part, though, was the giant indoor playground. Since they hold these kinds of events often it was a good investment for them to make to draw in my parents with small children. You have to pay an additional fee to use it, but there is a building with a large play structure inside with different climbing areas, net bridges, and slides for the kids to play on. And, for the parents, it was nice to sit down and relax, heating up from the warmth of the furnace after being out in the cold. Actually, the heater inside was likely the biggest appeal of it for me. The warm air blowing from the vents and maintaining the toasty temperature control in the building, compared to the crisp chill in the air outside, was comforting, and while I rested the kids were able to play and tire themselves out. The entire atmosphere of the place was great for kids and we plan on going back next year.
