With more and more companies trying to streamline their systems, they should be concerned about hackers gaining access to their networks.
Over the years, so many security systems have been breached, which resulted in lots of people having their identities or personal credit card information stolen.
Thankfully, I have never been a victim of this, but I have friends and families who were. And it’s a huge inconvenience to get new credit cards and switch all the automatic monthly payments that are connected to them. Hackers are getting smarter and smarter, and they are finding easier ways to hack into the systems of major companies. Some years ago, hackers were able to gain access to a major retailer’s system by hacking into their HVAC system. Once the hackers were able to gain access to the HVAC system, they used that as the gateway to tap into the main system of the company. I assume at the time that no one thought this breach was possible. After all, it’s not every day you hear about hackers using the HVAC system to get in the back door of a major retailer’s network. By now, there should be some safeguards in place to make sure that this doesn’t happen again. But with more and more companies becoming automated, having their networks, building and HVAC systems online, chances are, hackers will try to find a way to break through. My concern is that if the hackers can break into major retailers using their online HVAC systems, it means that they could potentially hack residential homes the same way. I don’t see this happening on a wide scale, but anything is possible in the age of automation that we are living in.
