One afternoon, not too long ago, my partner told me that in five years, when my buddy and I both retire, he wants to transfer to the mountains and live off the grid.
- I absolutely did guess he was joking however it turned out that he was serious.
My associate and I are both nature lovers, however I don’t know if I could comfortably live off the grid. I’m not too keen about building my own cabin and cooking over a fire and I am kind of keen on my central heat and air conditioner. My partner assures me that I will not be expected to live without heating and air conditioner. Nor was I expected to help build the cabin and I will have a real stove. That’s when I started to wonder if he was planning on taking me with him. That’s when he encouraged me to do a little research on heat pumps, battery power and solar power. There is a lot to learn! I confess that I don’t absolutely understand much of it, however I didn’t absolutely try that hard. I read enough to know that the power company isn’t the only way to get power. As long as I will have my heating and air conditioner I will be happy. And it seems that a heat pump can be run on solar power, and there are even solar generators. So, it appears that I will have my heating and air conditioner. It will cost a lot of money up front however my buddy and I will be eliminating an electric bill altogether. Now if I could just figure out how to get the internet out there….
