It appears as though humidity is one of the greatest pains for any homeowner.
- I had to experience this first hand to appreciate the vital role the proper levels of humidity play in ensuring comfort in a home.
While my HVAC system was technically the best you will ever find around, it was not very effective in controlling humidity. The AC ensures my house is cool enough during hot summers, whereas the HVAC system’s heating aspect works perfectly during harsh winters. One thing that seems to struggle is the ventilation aspect of the HVAC system. There always seems to be an issue with the humidity levels. One time it feels too musky and wet that the air is generally uncomfortable, yet another time it feels too dry for comfort. It took calling an HVAC professional to test humidity levels at different times to note the fluctuations. This process taught me a few things that will always be a significant factor to consider. First, I learned not to let the humidity levels get to 60% and above as this would support mold and mildew growth, which I did not want to deal with often, if not ever. My HVAC technician was kind enough to teach me how to take the readings myself since the humidity levels in my area were majorly influenced by natural causes; hence, I needed to keep testing and adjusting. I also had to invest in proper heating and ventilation as this helps when humidity levels are too high. On the other hand, when it gets dry, I use my humidifier since I want to protect my furniture and electronics, which are affected the most. I have accepted that having an air quality monitor is crucial for me since this will spare me many HVAC repair costs.
