When I was a kid, I grew up in a different household than most people.
My family didn’t have the same financial status as most of the people in my area. We lived on a large farm, had a minor income, and produced most of our food and clothing ourselves. We definitely lived the simple life. We barely had modern amenities, such as TV, indoor lighting, and central heating and cooling equipment. There were times that we went without all modern appliances. In fact, growing up, we rarely utilized any form of indoor air temperature control whatsoever. Most of the time, we relied on nature’s ventilation for our indoor air temperature control. Living out in the country on a massive Farm, we had awesome outdoor air quality. The climate was comfortable enough and the air always felt fresh and clean. When we opened our windows and fresh air came streaming in from outside, it was always so clean and refreshing. I truly loved the sensation of waking up to a nice cool morning with the windows open and a breeze blowing through. As an adult, I feel like I am a bit different because of my experiences growing up. I still hate to use central heating and cooling systems. I am not a fan of my forced air furnace or the massive air conditioning system outside. Honestly, I prefer fresh air anytime I can get it. I’m sure my friends and neighbors think that I’m a real kook, especially when I opt to sleep outside in fresh air rather than utilizing my central HVAC system indoors.
