Andrea had never seen a summer storm that bad before, and she was terrified.
She remembers hearing on the sound dock that there was going to be a storm soon in her area. The person who predicts the weather said that most people needed to get ready for bad weather. No one was scared, though, because Summer storms aren’t usually that bad. They do get flooded, and Andrea knew that would happen. When there were signs of a storm, she made sure to clean up her yard. Then, to keep the deck furniture from blowing away, she put it away. Andrea also went to the store to make sure she had enough food and to get gas for the generator. When a storm was coming, these were the usual things to do. But Andrea was wrong, because this storm was much worse and lasted much longer. She was left without electricity, and a tree fell on her cement roof. Andrea was in her dining room when she heard the loud crash as the tree fell. She was upset that there was a hole, but she didn’t want to check in the attic until the storm was over. The tree did a lot of damage, and Andrea’s cement roof needed to be fixed right away. After the accident, she called a local roofing company because she didn’t want the roof or her house to get any worse. Two roofing companies came by, used some equipment to move the tree, and then got to work fixing the cement roof. Andrea was so happy that she didn’t have to think about how much it would cost to upgrade the cement roof, because that would have messed up her budget.
