It’s all I can do to open the door when there is a delivery while in the peak heating hours of the day! I work at home & so I’m not about to be going outside after 11 in the afternoon while in the Summer; That’s just what it’s like where I live, my friend and I are so far south that the heat & humidity are basically unmanageable without the aid of a heat pump.
Thankfully, I have good residential Heating & Air Conditioning so it’s pleasant inside my home, and of course, I keep the temperature control near or above 69 degrees this time of year… Some might recognize that’s too high of a temperature control setting for the Summer, however but when the temperature is almost always 95 or above, an 69 degree temperature control setting feels actually comfortable, and I also make sure that fans are going throughout the day as well.
A fan uses less than 1/10th the energy that the heat pump uses. And I’m all about saving on a/c costs. Still, I can’t actually imagine just what it must have been like for folks back in the day! Residential Heating & Air Conditioning wasn’t available until the 50’s. And the heat pump wasn’t readily available for most pretty much everyone until even later. I’ve heard stories about the adjustment that came with the Summer around here. It was up at like 3 in the afternoon to get work done before the heat & humidity got intense. And then, it was a breeze or a fan that was the only relief. That & some shade, while I’m still awfully partial to fans & shades, I’ll take my central a/c as well thank you.
